Spider-Man Connections and Easter Eggs
Marvel's Wolverine is set in the same universe as Insomniac's Spider-Man games, Earth-1048, and proves it with a Daily Bugle, the Fact Channel, Fisk Tower and a billboard about Roxxon's jailed CEO, though Spider-Man never appears; it is also full of X-Men and Wolverine references, from Gambit's playing card to the "Wolverine's crush" bed that works as mission select.
Yes, Marvel's Wolverine is set in the same universe as Insomniac's Spider-Man games. IGN's ending video sums up that world: it "has a veteran Spider-Man, the Avengers, and even heroes like Daredevil and Doctor Strange, but no actual X-Men". Spider-Man never shows up and is never named on screen in a scene, but the game keeps reminding you he is out there, through newspapers, TV channels, skyscrapers and one billboard that only makes sense if you played Miles Morales. This page collects those links and the best Wolverine and X-Men Easter eggs players have found, each shown at the second it appears.
The Spider-Man games themselves, with their dates and platforms, are on Insomniac Marvel Games in Order.

Is Marvel's Wolverine in the same universe as Spider-Man?
Yes, by design, and also by design it stands apart. Brian Wyser, senior animation director at Insomniac, told But Why Tho? that while the team wanted Wolverine "related in the same universe as Spider-Man", it wanted the game "to stand alone as its own product", with different cinematography and a closer, more intimate gameplay camera. He had worked on Spider-Man and Miles Morales before it.
The game also states it. Marvel numbers its universes, and Insomniac's games are Earth-1048. IGN found that number on a dog tag in Logan's cabin during the mission Something Much Stronger.
The clearest proof is in In the Shadows, in Japan. Logan can examine a billboard and wonder aloud whether "that" man is "still in jail". He means Simon Krieger, the Roxxon CEO who was arrested at the end of Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales. Only someone in the same world could know that.
Game director Mike Daly has been clear that the crossover stops there: "There are no X-Men to help", and the story is "more of an exploration of the character than the world". No Spider-Man cameo, no Avengers.
Spider-Man references
In The One That Got Away, drop into the warehouse and go down to the basement: Leech's hideout holds a Daily Bugle, tucked into a busted pipe, the newspaper famous for its exclusive front-page photos of Spider-Man. Leech also keeps real Marvel comics there.
In Strays, a TV in Team X's hideout reports the refinery fire you started in the mission before, on the Fact Channel. That is the New York news network J. Jonah Jameson went to work for in the Spider-Man games, whose headquarters you can find there in Greenwich.
Six's bookshelf has joke titles (Keeping Two Jobs: A Survival Guide) and one real reference: Along Came a Spider, the name of a classic four-issue Venom story arc.
Look at Madripoor's skyline. Silver Sable International belongs to Silver Sable, a major antagonist in Insomniac's first Spider-Man game who returned in its DLC The City That Never Sleeps. Shaw points to Sebastian Shaw of the Hellfire Club, and Horizon to Horizon Labs, the tech company of one of Peter Parker's science heroes.
Hidden behind other buildings is Fisk Tower. Wilson Fisk, the Kingpin, was the first boss of Insomniac's Spider-Man, and in Spider-Man 2 his New York tower became the Baxter Building, so IGN's guess is that he moved his business to Madripoor. Alchemax, Next Inn and Futura Motors are on the skyline too.
When Logan first visits Shiro Yoshida's penthouse in Japan, the top of a stack of comics is Amazing Fantasy #15, the June 5, 1962 debut of Spider-Man, a comic that also appears at the very start of Insomniac's Spider-Man.
Wolverine and X-Men references
The best joke is a menu. "Wolverine's crush", the meme from episode 5 of X-Men: The Animated Series where Logan lies on a bed gazing at a photo of Jean Grey, is the game's level select: go through a Nightmare Door into Logan's cabin and use the bed in the corner. How mission replay works is on New Game Plus and Mission Replay.
While looking for Leech's drawings, talk to Toad in the hallway and Logan says his catchphrase in full: "I'm the best there is at what I do. But what I do best isn't very nice." He first said it in Wolverine #1 in 1982. The platinum trophy is named after it, I'm The Best There Is.
Dazzler, the X-Man who turns sound into light, is a pop star in this world, on billboards for her Revolution Tour in the Princess Bar's bathroom area and on a theater marquee in Madripoor.
In the Princess Bar, after giving Walter his record, check back for an Ace of Spades with a note from Remy LeBeau, Gambit: "I owe you." The record itself, The Dark End of the Street, is the song from the 2021 reveal teaser, which was also set in the Princess Bar.
The obelisk in the living area of Essex's mansion is a memorial to fallen mutants, and every name on it is the civilian name of a mutant from the comics, among them Morph, Blink, Maverick, Vivisector and Blockbuster, as IGN reads them. The mansion's locker room has spaces for several of the same mutants.
Idle animations and title screens
Leave Logan standing still for a few minutes and he grumbles "I hate standing still", squats, and then starts quipping lines from the comics and films. Let the title screens sit too: Logan carves a wooden cougar and throws it in the fire, orders a drink and eats a shish kebab, or shares a drink with Jean on a balcony over Madripoor.
Murals of Insomniac developers are hidden throughout the game. They honor "eternal Insomniacs", people who died while working at the studio, a tradition carried over from Insomniac's earlier games. The studio's history is on Insomniac Games.
Easter eggs for completionists
Liam McIntyre told IGN at Comic-Con that some of his favorite recordings are "secrets hidden in the game" made as deep dives for super fans, and that players going for 100% will find them, including down "the right back alley in Madripoor". The secret memory unlocked through the Nightmare Trials is the biggest of them; it is described on Ending Explained.
Several suits are references in their own right. GamingBolt's suit guide lists Old Man Logan from The One That Got Away, Future Past from Something Much Stronger, Patch from Roll The Dice, and Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls, crafted after you enter the arcade in In The Shadows. That last one is a crossover with Arc System Works' Marvel fighting game. The full list is on Suits and Claws.
We think the Krieger billboard is the most important line in the game for the future: it pins Wolverine to the year after Miles Morales and makes a crossover with Spider-Man possible without any retcon. In our view Insomniac is deliberately keeping Spider-Man off screen so Wolverine can stand on its own, and we expect the first real meeting of the two heroes, if it comes, to be in a later game rather than a Wolverine DLC. Our reasoning is on Predictions.

PredictionsWe think Marvel's Wolverine gets no story DLC, and that its sequel, not shown before 2028, makes the figure from the post-credits scene its villain and gives Jean Grey a playable part.
