Predictions
We think Marvel's Wolverine gets no story DLC, and that its sequel, not shown before 2028, makes the figure from the post-credits scene its villain and gives Jean Grey a playable part.
We think the story of Logan and Jean that starts with "There you are, Red" is only the first of at least two games: no story DLC for this one, and a sequel, shown no earlier than 2028, built on the threat teased after the credits.
These predictions avoid the ending's twists; where one depends on them, it points to Ending Explained, which has the details behind a spoiler warning.
These are Vi.ki's own predictions and opinions, not reported facts. Each one says what we base it on and when it can be checked. We will mark each one right or wrong when it resolves.
Will Marvel's Wolverine get story DLC?
We think Marvel's Wolverine gets no paid or free story DLC: no new missions with new story by the end of Sep 2027, a year after launch. If Insomniac ever did make one, we think it would star Jean Grey, set in Lowtown after the ending, not Logan.
Confidence: Likely. Check by: Sep 2027.
Why we think so: Insomniac said of its last game, "we have no additional story content planned for Marvel's Spider-Man 2", and kept to free updates instead (Insomniac Marvel Games in Order). Wolverine already ships its post-game on the disc: New Game Plus, the Nightmare Trials and a secret memory (New Game Plus and Mission Replay, Nightmare Doors and Trials). As of Nov 8, 2026 nothing is announced. The ending leaves Jean with more unfinished business than Logan (Ending Explained), which is why a DLC, if any, would be hers.
What would prove us wrong: an announced story expansion or new story missions for Marvel's Wolverine before Oct 2027.
When will Marvel's Wolverine 2 be announced?
We think Sony and Insomniac do not officially announce a Wolverine sequel before 2028.
Confidence: Likely. Check by: Dec 2027.
Why we think so: the gap between Wolverine's reveal and its release was five years (Insomniac Games), and between Insomniac's Spider-Man games about three. Wolverine sold well in the US, No. 1 for September 2026 per Circana (Sales), so we think a sequel is likely to be made, but reviews were the weakest of any Insomniac Marvel game (Reviews), and we think Sony shows its next Spider-Man game first.
What would prove us wrong: an official reveal of Marvel's Wolverine 2, or a game clearly titled as its sequel, during 2027.
Who will be the villain of Wolverine 2?
We think the sequel's main villain is the figure who speaks in the post-credits scene, and that the character he recruits in that scene is the main enemy Logan fights hand to hand. Both are named on Ending Explained.
Confidence: Likely. Check by: Dec 2029.
Why we think so: a post-credits scene exists to set up what comes next, and this one names a role for its new recruit outright (Ending Explained). The same figure is tied to Logan's past and to the Hand's worship of the Beast in Japan (Story), so the groundwork is already laid. Game director Mike Daly said the studio knew a confrontation with Sabretooth was "going to be a thing from the start", and we think a rivalry that central comes back.
What would prove us wrong: a sequel revealed with a different main villain, or without the recruit from the post-credits scene.
Will Jean Grey be playable in the sequel?
We think Jean Grey is a playable character for at least part of the next game set in Wolverine's world.
Confidence: Possible. Check by: Dec 2029.
Why we think so: Insomniac moved its Spider-Man series from one playable hero to two, Peter and Miles in Spider-Man 2 (Insomniac Marvel Games in Order). Jean already fights beside Logan with telekinesis (Characters), reviewers called her performance the heart of the game (Reviews), and the ending gives her more power than she had at the start (Ending Explained). In our view she is the obvious second hero, as Miles was.
What would prove us wrong: a sequel in which only Logan is playable.
Will the X-Men form in Insomniac's universe?
We think the next game set in Wolverine's world introduces Charles Xavier, and with him the start of the X-Men, as a character on screen.
Confidence: Possible. Check by: Dec 2029.
Why we think so: there are no X-Men in this game, and Daly has said "There are no X-Men to help". But IGN's ending video points out that Trask's files count only about 10,000 mutants worldwide, and the ending changes the world's mutant population in a way we cover on Ending Explained. In our view Insomniac built the X-Men's world in this game so it can introduce the team in the next, and Xavier is the character who gathers it.
What would prove us wrong: a sequel or spin-off that still has no Charles Xavier on screen.
Will Wolverine appear in a Spider-Man game?
We think Logan makes at least a cameo in Insomniac's next Spider-Man game, whether it is called Marvel's Spider-Man 3 or something else, but that Venom plays no part in Wolverine's own story.
Confidence: Possible. Check by: Dec 2030.
Why we think so: the two series share one universe, and Wolverine references Miles Morales's ending directly (Spider-Man Connections and Easter Eggs). Its final mission reaches far beyond Madripoor and Japan (Ending Explained), and in our view a New York game set afterwards cannot ignore what happened. Insomniac has kept Spider-Man off screen in Wolverine so the game could stand alone, which we think makes a crossover the payoff for a later game rather than for a Wolverine DLC.
What would prove us wrong: Insomniac's next Spider-Man game released with no appearance by Logan.
When will Marvel's Wolverine come to PC?
We think Marvel's Wolverine does come to PC, but not before 2028, later than Spider-Man 2's 15-month gap.
Confidence: Possible. Check by: Dec 2028.
Why we think so: all three Spider-Man games reached PC, Spider-Man 2 on Jan 30, 2025, 15 months after its PS5 launch (Insomniac Marvel Games in Order). But Bloomberg reported on Mar 4, 2026 that Sony would not bring single-player PS5 exclusives including Wolverine to PC, while noting plans are "constantly evolving". We think the policy slows the port rather than ending it. More on Platforms, PC Port and Performance.
What would prove us wrong: a PC release in 2027, or no PC version announced by the end of 2028.
Will Insomniac add free suits after launch?
We think Insomniac adds at least one new suit to Marvel's Wolverine in a free update by Sep 2027.
Confidence: Likely. Check by: Sep 2027.
Why we think so: Spider-Man 2 got new suits after launch as free updates, which Insomniac listed when it brought the game to PC (PlayStation Blog, Oct 18, 2024). Wolverine's 32 suits are one of its main rewards (Suits and Claws), and its four patches by Oct 6, 2026 show a team still at work on it (Patches and Updates).
What would prove us wrong: no new suit added to the game in any update by the end of Sep 2027.
When will Sony announce how many copies Wolverine sold?
We think Sony's first official sales figure for Marvel's Wolverine comes in a Sony earnings report or Insomniac post by Sep 2027, and is between 4 and 6 million copies.
Confidence: Possible. Check by: Sep 2027.
Why we think so: as of Nov 8, 2026 Sony has announced no figure. The only measured result is Circana's No. 1 in the US for September 2026; the analysts' estimates are about 2.5 million by mid-October from Alinea (Tech4Gamers), labeled as estimates on Sales. We think Sony waits for a round number before speaking, and that a game near 2.5 million after a month reaches 4 to 6 million within a year.
What would prove us wrong: an official figure below 4 million or above 6 million, or no official figure at all by the end of Sep 2027.
Result (Nov 8, 2026): Wrong. Sony's first official figure came in its earnings report of Nov 5, 2026, in time, but it was 2.4 million copies sold by Nov 4, 2026 (Game World Observer), below our 4 to 6 million. We expected Sony to wait for a round number; it reported the game seven weeks after launch instead. See Sales.
Will the Metacritic score change?
We think Marvel's Wolverine's Metascore stays between 74 and 76 through Mar 2027.
Confidence: Likely. Check by: Mar 2027.
Why we think so: it read 75 from 149 critics on Nov 8, 2026, down from 77 to 78 in launch week (Reviews). With almost 150 reviews in, a few late ones move the average by a point at most, and patches do not change scores already published.
What would prove us wrong: a Metascore of 73 or lower, or 77 or higher, in Mar 2027.
What creators predict
The first three clips below come from ending videos and play spoilers; the text here keeps to what those creators predict.
IGN: the post-credits scene leads to Wolverine 2 or an X-Men game
In its Sep 30, 2026 ending video, IGN predicts that the character in the post-credits scene will return "in the sequel to Marvel's Wolverine, whether that ultimately takes the form of Wolverine 2 or a full-fledged X-Men game", and tells viewers to expect the series to dig deeper into an old rivalry and the threat behind it. We think IGN is right that the post-credits scene is the sequel's starting point, as our own prediction above says.
Check by: Dec 2029.
IGN: Cyclops complicates Logan and Jean
In the same video, IGN guesses it "seems very likely that Insomniac will throw Cyclops into the mix" to complicate the love story, perhaps as someone Jean meets while helping other mutants after the ending. We think it is right that Cyclops arrives eventually, but we expect Charles Xavier before him, and the love triangle in a later game rather than the next one.
Check by: Dec 2029.
GamingBolt: an old rival brings Logan and Jean back together
In its Sep 17, 2026 ending video, GamingBolt argues for a direct Logan sequel and wonders whether Victor Creed, "on a surefire path to becoming quite a menace", will be "the reason Logan and Jean meet again in the next game". We think it is right: a threat to the new mutants Jean is protecting is the natural way to bring a Logan without memories back to her.
Check by: Dec 2029.
Skill Up: Marvel's weight swings behind the X-Men
In his Sep 10, 2026 review, Skill Up notes that Marvel had just announced a new X-Men film for 2028 and predicts that, with the next Avengers films feeling like a farewell tour, "the weight of the machine is surely about to swing in behind the Professor and his merry band of misfits", which makes Wolverine's prequel to the mutant world well timed. We think he is right, and that it raises the odds of Sony putting the X-Men, not just Logan, at the center of the next game.
Check by: Dec 2028.
IGN's Beyond: special suits will keep coming
On IGN's Beyond on Sep 11, 2026, a host predicts that Insomniac "will absolutely" add things like "this special suit", for example an Avengers: Doomsday Wolverine suit, as it did for Spider-Man 2, while doubting a suit means much in a linear game. We think the first half is right, as our free suits prediction above says, though we would not bet on a suit tied to a particular film.
Check by: Sep 2027.
GamingBolt in its review: bugs would be patched quickly
In its Sep 10, 2026 review, GamingBolt reported rare bugs, Logan's animations failing in corners and one mission that would not progress, and said "I would expect a patch to iron them out fairly quickly".
Check by: Oct 2026.
Result (Oct 7, 2026): Right. Insomniac released update 1.001.004 on launch day, Sep 15, 2026, with fixes including Logan being unable to slide under a prison door in Telambang (MP1st), then three more patches of crash and progression fixes by Oct 6 (PSU). The fix came within days, as predicted. See Patches and Updates.
Our take
We think Marvel's Wolverine is a first chapter, and its ending says so louder than any interview. In our view the game's real achievement is setting up a world: by the end, almost every main character is in a new place, and so is the world around them (Ending Explained). That is more setup than one DLC can pay off, which is why we expect a sequel rather than an expansion.
We think the sequel will have to answer the reviews as much as the cliffhanger. Critics liked the story and performances and disliked the repetition, the few bosses and the linear levels (Reviews). In our view a second playable hero, Jean, and more varied fights are the two changes that would move the score the most, and both fit where the story is going.
We also think Sony will be patient. A 75 Metascore and strong US sales point to a franchise worth continuing but not rushing, and we expect the next thing Insomniac shows to be Spider-Man, not Logan.
Frequently asked questions
Will there be a Marvel's Wolverine 2?
Nothing is announced as of Nov 8, 2026. We think a sequel will be made, built on the post-credits scene, but not announced before 2028.
Will Marvel's Wolverine get DLC?
We think not, at least not story DLC: Insomniac skipped story DLC for Spider-Man 2 and gave free updates instead. We do expect free suits.
Will Marvel's Wolverine come to PC?
We think so, but not before 2028. Bloomberg reported in March 2026 that Sony was not planning a PC version; nothing is announced.
Will the X-Men be in the next game?
We think Charles Xavier appears in the next game set in this world, starting the X-Men, but we rate it as possible rather than likely.
