Marvel's Wolverine is Insomniac Games' action game starring Logan, out Sep 15, 2026 on PlayStation 5 only. It sends him from Telambang through Canada, Madripoor and Japan against Omega Red, Lady Deathstrike, Sabretooth and Mister Sinister. This viki covers every mission with a walkthrough, each boss fight, the Whisky Bottles, Material Crates and Nightmare Doors, suits, skills, trophies and difficulty, then the story and ending, the cast, reviews, sales, patches and Insomniac's other Marvel games.
Marvel's Wolverine is a linear, single-player action game for PlayStation 5 in which Logan, rejoining the mutant task force Team X, tracks the Reavers and the industrialist Bolivar Trask across Canada, Madripoor and Japan to free the mutants they kidnap. It was made by Insomniac Games, the studio behind Marvel's Spider-Man, and came out on Sep 15, 2026, on PS5 only. The clip is Marvel Entertainment's upload of the June 2026 extended gameplay reveal: Logan stalks a Trask outpost from cover while the guards' radios go quiet one by one, the stealth half of a game that is mostly about claws, kicks and parries. Critics settled on "good, not great" (a Metascore of 75 as of Nov 8, 2026), while buyers made it the best-selling game in the US in September 2026. This viki covers the whole game: every mission, boss, collectible, suit and trophy, the story and its ending, and the launch facts, each number dated.

What kind of game is Marvel's Wolverine?
It is a third-person action game built as a string of missions, not an open world like Insomniac's Spider-Man games. IGN's previewer, who played about two and a half hours in August 2026, called it "a traditional linear AAA action game", and in the same clip lays out the setup: before the X-Men exist, Wolverine, Sabretooth and Mystique form Team X under their mentor Nathaniel Essex, and the first mission sends them to pull Essex out of Trask's hands. Game director Mike Daly described the structure as linear, "globe-trotting" and a "rollercoaster". Between missions Logan can walk around one social hub, the Princess Bar in Madripoor's Lowtown, run by Tyger. The plot, from the setup to the last act, is on Story; the people are on Characters, and the actors on Voice Cast.
Insomniac's angle on the character is memory. In the studio's 2025 featurette, the team calls Logan "an unreliable narrator" with "gaps in his memory", and the game is built around him recovering what he lost, through cutscenes and through the optional Nightmare Trials, which unlock memories of his long life. That thread is also why the ending matters so much; it is explained, with full spoilers, on Ending Explained.
Five things to know before you play
- It is violent, and you can turn that down. The game is rated M for blood and gore and intense violence, and the menu has over 100 accessibility settings with separate filters for dynamic blood, dismemberment and adult language. See Difficulty Settings and Accessibility.
- Parrying is the core skill. Most armored enemies have to be parried open, and bosses are beaten by building a stagger bar with well-timed parries. See Combat and Rage and Tips and Tricks.
- Logan can die. His healing factor regenerates health in a fight, but when he goes down he needs Rage in the tank to get back up (Last Stand); without it, the game reloads the last checkpoint.
- Nothing is missable. All 102 collectibles and all 42 trophies can be finished after the credits through mission replay. See Collectibles and Trophy Guide and Platinum.
- The guiding "scent trails" can now be turned off. The glowing lines that lead to objectives and collectibles were the most mocked feature at launch; updates 1.001.006 and 1.002.001 added toggles. See Patches and Updates.
How does combat work?
Logan fights up close: a gap-closing pounce brings him to an enemy, then claw combos, heavy kicks that break shields and knock enemies into walls, barrages and critical strikes finish the job. In the official Game Features trailer, Liam McIntyre walks through the rest: stealth takedowns from above or behind cover, Special Techniques that are upgraded to "deal massive damage, break barriers" (equipped four at a time, each on its own cooldown), and Adaptations, passive buffs "like deflecting bullets, absorbing damage, or terrifying Logan's attackers". Techniques are bought with Technique Points as Logan levels up; Adaptations come from Whisky Bottles and Nightmare Trials. The full lists are on Skills: Techniques and Adaptations.
The second system is Rage. Attacking, dodging and parrying fill a meter with three tiers: the second unlocks Last Stand, which spends Rage to restart the healing factor when Logan drops, and the third turns the screen black, white and red and makes his attacks far stronger. As the trailer puts it, Logan's healing factor keeps him resilient, "but he isn't immortal". GamingBolt's review adds that on the lowest difficulty the game drops that rule and lets him regenerate whenever his health empties. Everything about the meter, Berserker Rage and Jean Grey's telekinetic assists is on Combat and Rage; the enemies it is used on are on Enemies.
Fights happen in arenas between corridors, often with a partner. In the extended gameplay reveal, after Logan finds Jean ("There you are, Red"), the two clear a Trask yard together: Logan pounces between soldiers while Jean throws telekinetic blasts, and the Rage meter climbs in the corner of the screen. Only Logan is playable; his partners (Jean, Mystique, Sabretooth) fight on their own and join him in team-up finishers.
Where does the game take place?
In four regions, visited in five chapters. The Game Features trailer names them as "the neon-lit Shinjuku in Japan, the island of Madripoor, the jungles of [Telambang], and the wintry wilds of Canada", and adds the Essex Institute and the Princess Bar as places to walk around between fights. The mission order, from the guides that agree on all 30 names (PowerPyx and KeenGamer), runs like this:
| Chapter | Region | Missions | Boss |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Telambang (jungle, Trask's outpost and compound) | 1 to 3 | Omega Red Boss Fight |
| 2 | Canada (the Yukon and Vancouver) | 4 to 8 | None |
| 3 | Madripoor (Hightown and Lowtown) | 9 to 12 | Sentinel Prototype Boss Fight |
| 4 | Japan (Tokyo, Shinjuku, Mount Haku) | 13 to 21 | Lady Deathstrike Boss Fight |
| 5 | Return to Madripoor | 22 to 30 | Sabretooth Boss Fight, then the final boss (see Bosses) |
Japan and the return to Madripoor are the longest chapters at nine missions each, and the opening chapter is the shortest at three; Canada is the only chapter without a boss. Each region has its own walkthrough: Telambang Walkthrough (Missions 1 to 3), Canada Walkthrough (Missions 4 to 8), Madripoor Walkthrough (Missions 9 to 12), Japan Walkthrough (Missions 13 to 21) and Return to Madripoor Walkthrough (Missions 22 to 30), with the whole list on Walkthrough and Mission List and the places themselves on Locations. The five fights compared are on Bosses.
What is there to do after the story?
Quite a lot, all of it in the base game. Logan's "mind cabin", the Nightmare Cabin, replays any mission or Nightmare challenge; New Game Plus, on the disc from launch, adds "an increased level cap and exclusive techniques and adaptations"; and photo mode was there on day one. The collectibles are 68 Material Crates (materials to craft suits, which also raise Logan's health), 20 Whisky Bottles and 14 Nightmare Doors (both give Adaptation Levels), and the doors lead to scored trials ranked from Bronze to Adamantium. Locations are on Material Crate Locations, Whisky Bottle Locations and Nightmare Doors and Trials; the 32 suits and 26 claws on Suits and Claws; replay on New Game Plus and Mission Replay.
How long is Marvel's Wolverine?
Between about 11 and 20 hours, depending on how you play. IGN's reviewer called it a "15-hour string of missions" and earned the platinum after 20 hours; GamingBolt's review says the campaign can wrap up "in roughly 20 hours"; and two full no-commentary recordings on YouTube, cutscenes included, run 11 hours 23 minutes (Shirrako) and 11 hours 52 minutes (MKIceAndFire). We think the spread is mostly collectibles: a player who follows every scent trail adds a few hours to a run that, played straight, is under 12. The breakdown is on How Long to Beat.
Is Marvel's Wolverine good?
Critics called it good but uneven. As of Nov 8, 2026 it holds a Metascore of 75 from 149 reviews and an OpenCritic Top Critic Average of 76, with scores from Game Informer's 8.5 and Hardcore Gamer's 5 out of 5 down to IGN's and GameSpot's 6. In IGN's review, Simon Cardy sums it up as "okay, just a step or two below Insomniac's other superhero efforts": the story and the Logan and Jean Grey performances carry it, while combat "wears thin" and the levels repeat. Players on Metacritic give it 6.7. That makes it the lowest-rated of Insomniac's Marvel games, below Spider-Man (87) and Spider-Man 2 (90). Every major score, what reviewers agreed on and our own verdict are on Reviews.
Did Marvel's Wolverine sell well?
By the only measured figures, yes. Circana's Mat Piscatella reported that it was the best-selling game in the US in September 2026, with the highest launch-month dollar sales for a Sony-published game since Helldivers 2, and it opened at No. 1 on the UK boxed chart. Sony's first official figure is 2.4 million copies sold worldwide by Nov 4, 2026, from its earnings report of Nov 5, 2026. See Sales.
Release, editions and platforms
The game was revealed in September 2021, given a Fall 2026 window in September 2025 and dated on Feb 24, 2026; in the Game Features trailer, McIntyre repeats the date, "September 15th, 2026", before showing the combat. The full timeline, the day-one update and install size are on Release Date and Launch. Two editions are sold: Standard ($69.99) and Digital Deluxe ($79.99, with five extra suits, five claws and three Technique Points), plus a Battle Yellow PS5 bundle and controllers; see Editions and Price. It is a PS5 exclusive with no PC version announced as of Nov 8, 2026, and it runs at 60fps with ray tracing in its default Performance mode; see Platforms, PC Port and Performance. Every trailer from the 2021 reveal on is on Trailers, and the studio's road to launch, including the 2023 ransomware attack, is on Insomniac Games.
Is it connected to Marvel's Spider-Man?
Yes: it is set in the same universe as Insomniac's Spider-Man games, and it is the first game centered on Wolverine since X-Men Origins: Wolverine in 2009. The X-Men do not exist yet in this story, and Spider-Man does not appear. The references to Peter Parker's New York and to Marvel history hidden in the levels are on Spider-Man Connections and Easter Eggs; where it sits among Insomniac's games is on Insomniac Marvel Games in Order.
What we think
- We think Jean Grey is the reason to play: her performance and the Logan and Jean story were praised even in reviews that disliked the combat, and we expect a sequel to make her a partner in the fights, perhaps a playable one, rather than a voice in Logan's ear.
- We think the post-credits scene (explained on Ending Explained) points to a Marvel's Wolverine 2 rather than to story DLC, since no DLC has been announced almost two months after launch and the scene sets up a bigger villain than one expansion could hold.
- We thought Sony's first official sales figure would be above 3 million copies. It was not: Sony reported 2.4 million by Nov 4, 2026 (Sales), so that call was wrong. More of our predictions

Background
- Insomniac Games
Marvel's Wolverine was made by Insomniac Games, the Burbank studio behind Spyro, Ratchet & Clank and Marvel's Spider-Man, owned by Sony since 2019; it was revealed in 2021 under Brian Horton and Cameron Christian, finished under game director Mike Daly, and survived a 2023 ransomware attack that leaked part of its development.
- Insomniac Marvel Games in Order
Insomniac's Marvel games in release order are Marvel's Spider-Man (Sep 7, 2018), Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales and Marvel's Spider-Man Remastered (Nov 12, 2020), Marvel's Spider-Man 2 (Oct 20, 2023) and Marvel's Wolverine (Sep 15, 2026), all set in one universe; play them in that order, though Wolverine stands on its own.
Gameplay
- Combat and Rage
Marvel's Wolverine is a close-range, parry-driven brawler: claws, kicks, a gap-closing leap and cooldown-based Special Techniques, held together by a Rage meter with three tiers. Rage Tier 2 unlocks Last Stand, the revive that stands in for the Healing Factor, and Tier 3 turns the screen gray and makes weak enemies die in one hit.
- Skills: Techniques and Adaptations
Logan grows in two trees. Techniques (six active Special Techniques plus passive moves) are bought with Technique Points from leveling up; Adaptations are passive buffs slotted into Strands, bought with Adaptation Points from Whisky Bottles and Nightmare Trials. Tornado Spin, Knee Breaker and the healing Adaptations are the guides' first picks.
- Suits and Claws
Marvel's Wolverine has 32 suits (27 in the base game, 5 in the Digital Deluxe Edition) and 26 claw styles (23 that come with suits, 3 standalone from Nightmare Trials), per GamingBolt. Most suits are crafted with materials from Material Crates after a story mission unlocks them, and every crafted suit raises Logan's maximum health.
Beginner Guides
- Tips and Tricks
The 20 things worth knowing before and during Marvel's Wolverine, from creators' and guides' play - parry blue, dodge red, unlock Healing Strike first, end a barrage with Triangle to heal, spend materials on suits at once (they raise health), put your favorite technique on the combo-ender recharge, and turn off the scent trails if they bother you.
Boss Guides
- Bosses
Marvel's Wolverine has five story bosses, in this order: Omega Red (Mission 3), the Sentinel Prototype (Mission 11), Lady Deathstrike (Mission 20), Sabretooth (Mission 25) and Nathaniel Essex as Mister Sinister (Mission 29). Each has its own trophy and its own guide page.
- Lady Deathstrike Boss Fight
Lady Deathstrike is the third boss of Marvel's Wolverine, fought in Mission 20, Death's Match, on Mount Haku in Japan. Keep L1 ready, parry her yellow ranged sword slash and her close stabs, counter with short claw strings, and in the second half, once she drops the sword for her claws, parry even more.
- Mister Sinister Boss Fight
The final boss of Marvel's Wolverine is Nathaniel Essex as Mister Sinister, in Mission 29, No Coming Back. Ignore his giant Sentinel at first, dodge his red laser beams, parry his purple attacks, wait out his forcefield counter, and when he takes to the sky, parry his yellow orbs back to bring him down.
- Omega Red Boss Fight
Omega Red is the first boss of Marvel's Wolverine, fought at the end of Mission 3, Last Meal, in Telambang. Parry his blue and yellow tentacle attacks to fill his yellow stagger bar, dodge everything that glows red, and punish him only while he is staggered.
- Sabretooth Boss Fight
Sabretooth is the fourth boss of Marvel's Wolverine, fought in Mission 25, Red Right Hand, in Madripoor's Lowtown. Parry his standard attacks, dodge what you cannot counter, keep staggering him so his healing factor cannot undo your damage, watch his silhouette and hit every prompt while Logan is blinded, and slash every market stall at the start for the Harmer's Market trophy.
- Sentinel Prototype Boss Fight
The Sentinel Prototype is the second boss of Marvel's Wolverine, fought in Mission 11, For Our Future, in Madripoor's Hightown. Dodge its arm crushes a beat late, attack the arm while it rests on the ground, run from the lasers, call Mystique with R1 to stagger it, and tear off one arm indoors and the other outside.
Collectible Guides
- Collectibles
Marvel's Wolverine has 102 collectibles in three types, 68 Material Crates, 20 Whisky Bottles and 14 Nightmare Doors, spread over 19 of its 30 missions. Crates pay for suits (and with them Logan's health), bottles and Nightmare Trials raise his Adaptation Level, none can be missed, and Mission Select cleans up whatever you pass by.
- Material Crate Locations
Marvel's Wolverine has 68 Material Crates in 20 missions, from two in the Essex Institute's lab and Victor's room in Homecoming to three in This Was The Dream. Their materials craft suits, every suit raises Logan's health, and all 68 earn the Silver trophy Crate Collector.
- Nightmare Doors and Trials
Marvel's Wolverine has 14 Nightmare Doors, each marked by purple roots, and each opens a Nightmare Trial in Logan's mind (combat, traversal or a 25-wave gauntlet) ranked Bronze to Adamantium. Trials pay Adaptation progress and restore memories; the three gauntlets give three claws and the Future Fugitive and Hellverine suits; and all 14 open a hidden 15th trial, "Best There Is", and a hidden memory.
- Whisky Bottle Locations
Marvel's Wolverine has 20 Whisky Bottles in 15 missions, from Uncanny Whisky in Homecoming to Ol' Canucklehead in Tyger's bar in I'm Still Here. Each raises Logan's Adaptation progress, the first earns But a Dram, and all 20 earn Full Barrel and the Midnight suit.
Completion Guides
- How Long to Beat
Marvel's Wolverine's story takes about 11 to 15 hours: two recorded no-commentary runs finished in 11 hours 23 minutes and 11 hours 52 minutes, and IGN's reviewer called it a 15-hour string of missions. Everything, all 102 collectibles and the platinum, takes about 15 to 20 hours.
- New Game Plus and Mission Replay
Marvel's Wolverine shipped with New Game Plus and mission replay on day one, both in the Nightmare Cabin. Mission Select replays any mission with your collectibles kept, and New Game Plus replays the story with a level cap raised from 36 to 40 and extra Techniques and Adaptations; it is not needed for any trophy.
- Trophy Guide and Platinum
Marvel's Wolverine has 42 trophies (1 Platinum, 4 Gold, 9 Silver, 28 Bronze), all offline, none missable and none tied to difficulty. The platinum, I'm The Best There Is, takes about 15 to 20 hours in one playthrough, and the story alone earns most of the list.
Setup Guides
- Difficulty Settings and Accessibility
Marvel's Wolverine has five difficulty presets, from The Man (Logan cannot be knocked out) through The Hunter, The Mutant and The Weapon to The Best There Is, plus custom sliders for enemy aggressiveness, damage and health. Difficulty can be changed at any time and no trophy depends on it. Over 100 accessibility settings include game speed down to 30%, Skip Puzzle, QTE autocomplete, audio description and violence filters.
- Patches and Updates
Marvel's Wolverine has had five updates as of Nov 8, 2026, from day-one patch 1.001.004 on Sep 15 to 1.002.001 on Oct 6. Most of them answer one complaint, the blue scent trails (dimmed in 1.001.005, made optional for collectibles in 1.001.006, moved behind the R3 hint button for the story in 1.002.001), while 1.002.000 brought Sony's QSSR upscaling to the base PS5.
Walkthrough
- Canada Walkthrough (Missions 4 to 8)
Canada is Marvel's Wolverine's second chapter, Missions 4 to 8 (Homecoming, The One That Got Away, Raise Some Hell, Strays and Something Much Stronger), from the Essex Institute in the Yukon to Vancouver's docks, the highway chase and Trask's refinery. It holds 4 Nightmare Doors, 15 Material Crates and 5 Whisky Bottles.
- Japan Walkthrough (Missions 13 to 21)
Japan is Marvel's Wolverine's longest chapter, Missions 13 to 21, from the Hand's attack on the plane (Jetlag) through Shinjuku, Shiro's penthouse, Harada Garden Tower and the Helix Engine to Mount Haku and Lady Deathstrike. It holds 4 Nightmare Doors, 29 Material Crates and 7 Whisky Bottles.
- Madripoor Walkthrough (Missions 9 to 12)
Madripoor is Marvel's Wolverine's third chapter, Missions 9 to 12 (Knock Knock, Mutant Detected, For Our Future and One Last Mission): Team X hits Trask in Hightown, fights the Sentinel Prototype, then regroups at Tyger's Princess Bar in Lowtown before the Hand strike. It holds 2 Nightmare Doors, 9 Material Crates and 3 Whisky Bottles.
- Return to Madripoor Walkthrough (Missions 22 to 30)
The last chapter of Marvel's Wolverine, Missions 22 to 30 (Way Down Low to Brave New World), takes Logan and Jean back to a Madripoor under Reaver lockdown, through the casino in disguise, the Sentinel attack on Lowtown and the Sabretooth fight to the final battle with Essex. It holds 4 Nightmare Doors, 15 Material Crates and 5 Whisky Bottles, all in Missions 22 to 24, 27 and 28.
- Telambang Walkthrough (Missions 1 to 3)
Telambang is the prologue of Marvel's Wolverine, Missions 1 to 3 (Back in Action, A Debt Repaid and Last Meal): Logan rejoins Team X to rescue Nathaniel Essex from Bolivar Trask's jungle compound and ends it by fighting Omega Red. It has no collectibles and takes about an hour.
- Walkthrough and Mission List
Marvel's Wolverine has 30 story missions in five chapters (Telambang 1 to 3, Canada 4 to 8, Madripoor 9 to 12, Japan 13 to 21 and the return to Madripoor 22 to 30), with five boss fights and 102 collectibles spread across 20 of them. Every mission can be replayed from the Nightmare Cabin after the story, so nothing is missable.

Marvel's Wolverine is Insomniac Games' linear, M-rated action game about Logan for PlayStation 5, out since Sep 15, 2026. It runs about 12 to 15 hours for the story, scores 75 on Metacritic and was the best-selling game in the US in September 2026.
- Platforms, PC Port and Performance
Marvel's Wolverine is a PS5 exclusive, PS5 Pro Enhanced, with no PS4 or PC version as of Nov 8, 2026. It defaults to a 60fps Performance mode with ray tracing, uses PSSR upscaling on PS5 Pro and, since update 1.002.000, Sony's QSSR upscaler on the base PS5.
- Predictions
We think Marvel's Wolverine gets no story DLC, and that its sequel, not shown before 2028, makes the figure from the post-credits scene its villain and gives Jean Grey a playable part.
- Release Date and Launch
Marvel's Wolverine came out on Sep 15, 2026, on PlayStation 5 only. It was dated on Feb 24, 2026, reviews went up on Sep 10, and a day-one update, 1.001.004, was out on launch day.
- Reviews
Marvel's Wolverine scores 75 on Metacritic from 149 critics and 76 on OpenCritic, as of Nov 8, 2026, with players at 6.7. Critics praised the story, Jean Grey and the gore and faulted repetitive combat, heavy hand-holding and few bosses; it is the lowest-rated of Insomniac's Marvel games.
- Sales
Marvel's Wolverine was the best-selling game in the US in September 2026 by Circana's count, with Sony's biggest launch-month dollar sales since Helldivers 2, and it opened at No. 1 on the UK boxed chart. Sony's first official figure, in its earnings report of Nov 5, 2026, is 2.4 million copies sold worldwide by Nov 4, 2026, in line with the analysts' estimates of about 2.2 to 2.5 million.
- Trailers
Marvel's Wolverine has had about a dozen official trailers and featurettes, from the Sep 9, 2021 reveal teaser to the Oct 16, 2026 motion-capture featurette. The ones that show real gameplay are the Sep 24, 2025 gameplay trailer, the Jun 2, 2026 extended gameplay reveal and the Aug 28, 2026 Game Features trailer.
Story
- Characters
The main characters of Marvel's Wolverine are Logan, Jean Grey, Team X (Sabretooth and Mystique, led by Nathaniel Essex) and their enemy Bolivar Trask, with Omega Red, Lady Deathstrike and the Hand as villains and Leech, Walter, Tyger, Callisto, Shiro Yoshida and Toad among the mutants Logan meets. The X-Men do not exist yet in this game.
- Ending Explained
Full spoilers. Marvel's Wolverine ends with Nathaniel Essex revealed as Mister Sinister and beaten, and with Jean Grey burning the Horseman of Death out of Logan's mind at his own request, which erases his memories again; after the credits Apocalypse calls Sabretooth to become War, and a hidden memory unlocked through the Nightmare Trials shows Jean has done this for Logan before.
- Spider-Man Connections and Easter Eggs
Marvel's Wolverine is set in the same universe as Insomniac's Spider-Man games, Earth-1048, and proves it with a Daily Bugle, the Fact Channel, Fisk Tower and a billboard about Roxxon's jailed CEO, though Spider-Man never appears; it is also full of X-Men and Wolverine references, from Gambit's playing card to the "Wolverine's crush" bed that works as mission select.

Marvel's Wolverine follows Logan, a centuries-old mutant with gaps in his memory, as he rejoins Team X to stop Bolivar Trask's Reavers from kidnapping mutants, a chase that runs from the jungles of Telambang through Canada and Madripoor to Japan. This page tells the story up to the final mission; the ending has its own page.
- Voice Cast
Liam McIntyre voices and performs Logan in Marvel's Wolverine, the only cast member PlayStation has officially named; press coverage confirms Krizia Bajos as Jean Grey, Troy Baker as Nathaniel Essex, Nicole Pacent as Mystique and Brett Gipson as Sabretooth, and the rest of the cast is so far only listed by guide sites.
World
- Enemies
Marvel's Wolverine has three main enemy factions and a fourth that arrives later: Bolivar Trask's guards, his cybernetic Reavers, the ninjas of the Hand in Japan, and Trask's Sentinels. Each faction has gunmen, melee fighters, shielded or armored units and a heavy Brute; parry the melee, leap to the shooters, kick the shields.
- Locations
Marvel's Wolverine travels through four regions in a fixed order: the jungles of Telambang, the Canadian wilds and Vancouver, the island nation of Madripoor (Hightown and Lowtown, with the Princess Bar), and Japan (Tokyo, Shinjuku and Mount Haku), then back to Madripoor for the last nine missions. It is linear, not open world, with Logan's mind cabin as the place to replay missions.
