Mister Sinister Boss Fight
The final boss of Marvel's Wolverine is Nathaniel Essex as Mister Sinister, in Mission 29, No Coming Back. Ignore his giant Sentinel at first, dodge his red laser beams, parry his purple attacks, wait out his forcefield counter, and when he takes to the sky, parry his yellow orbs back to bring him down.
Spoiler warning: this page names the final boss and describes the last mission of the story. What happens after the fight is on Ending Explained.
To beat Mister Sinister, the final boss of Marvel's Wolverine, read the colors: dodge his red laser beams, parry his purple attacks, and do not rush him, because he punishes reckless pressure. The boss is Nathaniel Essex, Logan's old Team X leader, fought in Mission 29, No Coming Back, and in IGN Guides' Sep 18, 2026 Back to Madripoor walkthrough the duel opens with his "Last chance to stop this". Game Rant's Sep 15, 2026 boss guide by Jake Fillery gives the first rule: ignore his giant Sentinel for now, and focus on Essex.

Where the final boss fight happens
No Coming Back opens with Essex launching Helix Sentinels through portals. In AFGuidesHD's Sep 14, 2026 recording, Jean asks "Are those power cells?" and the two break them to stop the next launch while Reavers attack. The route through this part is on the Return to Madripoor walkthrough.
Breaking the cells is not the end of it. In the same recording the machine's voice announces "Power online" and all power diverted to the giant machine, the launch sequence starts again, and Logan answers with disbelief. This is the Sentinel KeenGamer's Sep 17, 2026 boss guide by Solomon Jackson names Master Mold, and it stays over the fight as a hazard.
The boss fight proper starts when Shiro arrives ("Tokyo's under attack by a giant robot") and Essex faces Logan with "Last chance to stop this", boasting that he can feel "thousands of mutants coming alive" in Los Angeles, London and Cairo. Shiro's line is why we place the fight in Tokyo, which matches KeenGamer's list.
IGN's Sep 30, 2026 ending explainer sums up what Essex has become by now: he has implanted "countless new mutant genes" and wears his Mister Sinister armor, and his plan is an army of Sentinels to awaken mutants and bend them to his will. The rest of that video is the ending; read it on Ending Explained after the fight.
On the ground: Essex and his copies
"Illusions ain't going to save you this time", Logan tells Essex in AFGuidesHD's recording, and the illusions are part of the fight: KeenGamer says Essex creates copies of himself, uses ranged attacks and a sword, and counters with a forcefield. Dodge his red laser attacks rather than blocking them, and use the attacks you can parry (Game Rant names his purple ones) to make your openings.
KeenGamer's warning is about patience: his forcefield-style counter punishes reckless pressure, so wait for a finished attack or a successful parry or dodge before you go in. Essex talks through it in AFGuidesHD's recording ("I will be the first of a new species"), and Logan's answer, "Can't even control yourself", is a fair description of how the fight goes when you over-commit.
In AFGuidesHD's recording the fight's turn is spoken aloud: "This isn't working." Logan is told Essex is "connected to it", the giant Sentinel, and Essex taunts Logan that he grew stronger from "every X-gene you helped me collect".
In the air: the yellow orbs
After enough hits, Essex retreats to the sky. Game Rant says to parry the yellow orbs he shoots, which brings him down, and to dodge the red ones, while keeping an eye on the Sentinel's laser eyes. In AFGuidesHD's recording the warning "Lasers online" sounds here, and Essex tells Logan and his allies to "keep exhausting yourselves".
Essex shouts that Logan has "no chance against the power of my Helix Sentinel" and calls the effort "a waste of energy", until an ally shouts "We got to get rid of this thing". KeenGamer's advice for this stage is to keep moving, since attacks now come from both threats, and to keep damaging Essex rather than the Sentinel.
The last stretch
The Sentinel comes down with the allies' help. In AFGuidesHD's recording Logan is told to "shut it down", Essex jeers "Back on the ground, dog", and Logan calls on Shiro to "light me up". Game Rant says the final section needs fast damage and reflexes, using every skill you have learned; KeenGamer says to rely on the clean parries and controlled dodging the earlier bosses taught.
Part of the end is a confrontation in Logan's head. In AFGuidesHD's recording Essex's lines are aimed at Logan's past: "You'd be nothing without me", "Let me jog your memory", "You were wasting away on a bar. I gave you purpose". There is nothing to parry in what he says; keep pushing on.
The last exchange in AFGuidesHD's recording is Essex's "I'm done toying with you" and the reply that death "will embrace you". A Sinister End unlocks; everything after the last blow belongs to Ending Explained.
Attacks to dodge or parry
| Attack | Color | When | What to do |
|---|---|---|---|
| Laser beams | Red | On the ground | Dodge; never block |
| Melee and sword attacks | Purple | On the ground | Parry to make an opening |
| Forcefield counter | When you press too hard | Wait for a finished attack, then go in | |
| Copies of himself | On the ground | Keep your eye on the real Essex | |
| Orbs from the sky | Yellow | In the air | Parry them back to bring him down |
| Orbs from the sky | Red | In the air | Dodge |
| Sentinel's laser eyes | In the air and after | Keep moving; hit Essex, not the Sentinel |

Recommended skills
This is the longest fight in the game, so Technique uptime matters. Arekkz Gaming's Sep 16, 2026 combat tips call Combo Ender Recharge "a top tier pick", since you finish combos constantly, and pair it with Enraged Recharge, which speeds Technique recharge at Rage tiers two and three; Rage Intimidation and Chain Crit turn tier two Rage into chains of critical strikes. Brutal Assault, the last Technique, unlocks at level 25 per GamingBolt's Special Techniques guide. We think Extended Parry is the one Adaptation not to skip: this fight has more parry chances than any other, from the purple attacks to the yellow orbs. The trees are on Skills: Techniques and Adaptations.
