Difficulty Settings and Accessibility

Marvel's Wolverine has five difficulty presets, from The Man (Logan cannot be knocked out) through The Hunter, The Mutant and The Weapon to The Best There Is, plus custom sliders for enemy aggressiveness, damage and health. Difficulty can be changed at any time and no trophy depends on it. Over 100 accessibility settings include game speed down to 30%, Skip Puzzle, QTE autocomplete, audio description and violence filters.

Marvel's Wolverine has five difficulty presets, named after what Logan is: The Man, The Hunter, The Mutant, The Weapon and The Best There Is, from easiest to hardest, per AllThings.how and GAMEWAVE (Sep 15, 2026). The lowest changes the rules, not just the numbers: GamingBolt's Sep 10, 2026 review explains that on it the game "removes that restriction entirely", so Logan regenerates whenever his health empties instead of dying when Rage runs out. You can change difficulty at any time from Settings, mix your own values, and earn every trophy, the Platinum included, on The Man (Trophy Guide and Platinum).

The five difficulty levels

AllThings.how's Sep 15, 2026 guide reads the values each preset sets out of ten. GAMEWAVE's French guide, published the same day, lists the same five in the same order with matching descriptions (L'Homme, Le Chasseur, Le Mutant, L'Arme, Le Meilleur).

Preset Aggressiveness Enemy damage Enemy health Who it is for (AllThings.how, GAMEWAVE)
The Man 2 2 3 Minimal combat challenge; Logan cannot be knocked out
The Hunter 4 3 4 Players who mainly want the story
The Mutant 5 5 5 The balanced experience, for most players
The Weapon 6 7 7 Players who like harder fights
The Best There Is 7 9 8 Experts; the most punishing preset

We read the names as a climb through Logan's identities, from man to hunter to mutant to living weapon, ending on his line that he is "the best there is at what he does", which the Platinum trophy also borrows ("I'm The Best There Is").

The Insider Gaming report of Jun 22, 2026, taken from Insomniac's accessibility page, names three individual settings under Challenge Level: Stealth Awareness (how fast enemies notice you), Enemy Health and Enemy Damage. AllThings.how's table adds Aggressiveness. Any of them can be set by hand instead of using a preset.

Which difficulty should you choose?

We think most players should start on The Mutant and move up to The Weapon once the first few Adaptations are bought (Skills: Techniques and Adaptations). The game is easy at its default: IGN called the combat "quite forgiving" and Skill Up called it "really easy", and The Weapon is where Last Stand and the parry start to matter (Combat and Rage). Pick The Hunter if you are here for Jean Grey and the story, and The Man for trophy cleanup or a relaxed second run; with no knockouts, nothing in the game can stop you.

The Best There Is is a fair challenge rather than a wall. It mainly raises enemy damage (9 of 10), so the healing Adaptations matter more than any technique, as MixBreed Gaming's hardest-difficulty build shows. GAMEWAVE suggests saving it for New Game Plus, where the extra level cap and Adaptations help (New Game Plus and Mission Replay); we agree for a first run, and think it is worth trying on a second.

Steve Saylor's run on the hardest difficulty

Steve Saylor, a blind accessibility creator, beat the whole game on the hardest difficulty, which he says he had never done in any game. He credits "the special features that Insomniac has implemented" and calls it "as close to the high level that we saw in The Last of Us Part II" as any action game he has played, a "very close second place" for accessibility.

His Vision preset turns on high contrast, enlarged text, audio description, screen reader support, navigation assistance, auto-aim, collectible sound effects and the audio cues of earlier PlayStation games, and he shows chase assistance for the chase scenes. He set Logan to yellow with an outline and enemies to pink in high contrast mode.

The motor settings he shows include QTE autocomplete, navigation assistance, a dodge mode toggle, dodge and parry input timing, UI hold options, autorun with a delay, turning off the touchpad in combat, and game speed: "from 100% to 70%, 50% or 35%", either for the whole game or only in combat. Insider Gaming's list from Insomniac's own page gives the lowest step as 30%, so the two sources differ by five points; we report both.

Audio description covers both cutscenes and the short in-game video inserts, which Saylor says even The Last of Us Part II lacked, voiced with Descriptive Video Works. His criticisms: navigation assist sometimes pointed back the way he came, the screen reader once repeated a tip through a cutscene until he reloaded, some inspectable objects had no description, and the off-screen attack indicators could use more contrast. He scored the accessibility 4.5 out of 5.

Every accessibility setting

Insomniac's Game Features trailer promises the headline numbers: "over 100 settings", audio, visual and motor presets, and "filters for dynamic blood, dismemberment, and adult language". Insider Gaming's Jun 22, 2026 list, from Insomniac's support page, groups them as follows.

Group Settings
Challenge Challenge Level, Stealth Awareness, Enemy Health, Enemy Damage, Skip Puzzle
Gameplay assists Lock-On (Off, On-Screen, All), Dodge/Parry Input Timing, Dodge Mode, Chase Assist, Navigation Assist, Traversal Assist, Global and Combat Game Speed (100, 70, 50, 30%), QTE Autocomplete, Repeated Button Presses, UI Holds, Sprint Mode, Special Techniques Mode (Hold or Toggle), Melee Mode (Single, Combo, Continuous), Mission Waypoint Display (On, R3 Hint, Off)
Motion Motion Blur, Film Grain, Chromatic Aberration, Depth of Field, Camera Shake, Center Dot
Vision UI Text Size, icon size, Senses and threat colors, Boss and Hero Health display, High Contrast with four presets and seven enemy shader types
Audio Mono Audio, Voice Boost, Screen Reader (seven languages, up to 400% speed), Accessibility Audio Cues, Audio Description, Profanity Filter (US English only), frequency filters, Streaming Mode
Subtitles Size, colors, background, speaker names, direction indicators
Controller Full remapping, D-pad shortcuts, adaptive triggers and vibration modes

Special Techniques Mode set to Toggle and the D-pad shortcuts both make the L2-plus-button techniques easier to fire; Octorious's settings video suggests mapping them to the D-pad as an alternative to Photo Mode and the collectible tracker (Tips and Tricks).

QTE autocomplete and navigation assist are not what you think

Octorious's Sep 14, 2026 settings video clears up two common questions. QTE Autocomplete only skips the slowdown and completes a prompt at once; with it off, the prompts "will never actually fail" anyway, they complete themselves when the window ends. Navigation Assist draws its own trail to the objective and turns the camera, so it does not affect Logan's blue scent trail. Turning the scent trail and the collectible sense cues off came later, in updates 1.001.006 and 1.002.001 (Patches and Updates).

Violence settings

The violence filters are under Violence Customization: a Violence Preset of Some or Full, and separate toggles for Dynamic Blood, Dismemberment and Visceral Healing (the gore of Logan's own wounds closing), per Insider Gaming. A Profanity Filter covers US English audio. The game is rated M by the ESRB for blood and gore, intense violence, partial nudity and strong language, and these settings do not change the rating (Editions and Price).
